Type 1 diabetes
It accounts for less than 5% of all diabetes, and it can be affected by all ages, usually in adolescents under 15 years old.
Acute onset, severe symptoms, manifested as polydipsia, polyuria, and weight loss. Many patients are even hospitalized for ketosis or ketoacidosis before they learn that they have diabetes;
The reason is that after the virus infects the human body, autoantibodies are produced in the body, and the islet cells are treated as enemies to attack, causing the destruction of the islet cells and the lack of insulin secretion;
Once diagnosed, patients with type 1 diabetes often need to rely on exogenous insulin for life.
Type 2 diabetes
It accounts for 90% to 95% of all diabetes, and it mostly occurs in adults over 40. The onset is slow and the course of the disease is long. Many patients do not have the typical symptoms of "three more and one less", and abnormal blood glucose is often found in medical examinations or routine physical examinations due to other diseases.
The main reasons include genetic background. There is more than one diabetic in a considerable number of families with type 2 diabetes; but environmental factors are more important because not everyone in the same family will get the disease. Environmental factors, including obesity, advanced age, insufficient physical activity, and high mental stress, can aggravate insulin secretion disorders and abnormal insulin action (insulin resistance), which can cause diabetes;
Most patients with type 2 diabetes require oral hypoglycemic drugs and/or insulin therapy.
Gestational diabetes
Gestational diabetes refers to a type of diabetes that occurs in women after pregnancy. Patients often have a family history of diabetes. Although most patients may return to normal after re-examination 6 weeks after delivery, some patients still have diabetes or abnormal glucose tolerance.
